8 Things You May Not Know About Blackthorn

A week today,Β the final Blackthorn book will be yours. Yay! πŸŽ‰

As there are eight books in the series, here’s a brief trip down memory lane with 8 things you may not know about Blackthorn:

1. I first came up with the idea for Blackthorn back in 1996 after getting lost one night after moving to a new city 300 miles away from home. This September will mark its twenty-third anniversary.

2. All the Blackthorn couples started out in short stories when I was constructing the overarching plot of the series. They all had to work hard to make their place in the final cut.

3. Originally there were only going to be six Blackthorn books. Jask and Phia were never going to be lead characters, despite being integral to the overarching plot. The editor who worked on the first two books thought Jask deserved a book of his own though, hence Blood Torn being slotted in before Blood Deep. And why was Jask never going to be a leading man? Because I’m terrified of werewolves/lycans and never thought I’d be able to write one convincingly as a romantic hero! Jask has since become one of the favourites of the series. 😍

4. I was discovered by my publisher through a writing competition. Blood Roses made it into the final in 2010 and Blood Shadows in 2011 after being voted for by readers and editors. I was offered a contract for the first three books in 2012.

5. I was approached by Bookouture (Blackthorn’s publisher) on Friday 13th. Spooky…

6. Blackthorn’s covers were changed in 2014 ready for the launch of Blood Torn. They originally had a much more traditionally Gothic feel but Bookouture decided to give them a more contemporary urban edge. The original covers were red, black and white to reflect the design of my website at the time. I chose red, black and white because, in folklore, these are the three colours associated with the Blackthorn plant.

7. Blood Shadows was optioned for a film by Hollywood studios Relativity Media but lost out to a split vote.

8. By the time you finish Blood Broken, if you have read all eight Blackthorn books you would have read almost a MILLION WORDS! I hope it’s flown by for you as much as it has for me. πŸ˜πŸ“•πŸ“—πŸ“˜πŸ“™πŸ“šπŸ“–

Omg I didn’t know that about the possible movie! Shame on them!!! It would have been a fantastic movie; it is after all my favourite book!!!!

1 million words!?!? Wow! Think of the numbers considering the many re-reads that have occurred!!!

Ah it really was for the best, Sarah. It was very exciting at the time though! And lol, clearly you’re not biased. πŸ˜‰

As for the million words – I know! I can’t believe some of my readers have read the series up to seven times! Wow!

I have been thinking of who could take the leads in a film but found it really hard to come up with names. As I am such a big Caleb fan, I thought of Alex Pettyfer but he might be too young. For the girls, I just have the images on the covers so ingrained in my mind that, if those girls could act, they would be perfect.
Lindsay, you need to get back to that Hollywood studio and tell them they have to rethink now that all the books have been written. Although these days, I think you would be better getting it made as a mini TV series. Some have been far more successful than films. I really hope this happens for you and it would be so well deserved. You would need to keep major control though as we don’t want anyone to ruin your amazing gift to us.
Will you share any of the names Team Blackthorn have come up with?
I have booked Monday off. My plan is to start reading shortly after midnight on 19/20th! Can’t wait! πŸ’šπŸŒžπŸ»

Hi Marie! I would MUCH rather a TV series too – I think that would be so much more fun and the characters and storyline could really be fleshed out then as intended.

As for the characters, yes, I’ll compile a list. There were some really interesting names and loads I had to look up. I’m so impressed with some of the choices. It’s amazing seeing what my readers are imagining.

Aww, and it’s lovely you’ve booked Monday off. I do hope you have a wonderful time curling up with Caleb. ❀️

Wow!! I didn’t know about the movie either!!! Their loss, however honestly these books would work better as a series, rather than a movie. They tend to leave alot of stuff out, or change the story so it wouldn’t be the same. This is AWESOME πŸ’– Lindsay!!! You should be proud of yourself for what you accomplished!!! And you did good by Jask!!! I know you will gift us with more amazing stories to come!!! You go girl!!!πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ’–!!!

I’m so glad you agree that the books would work better as a TV series too, Olga – for the very same reasons. And thank you so, so much. ❀️
